Mise en place is a French culinary term meaning ‘Everything in Its Place’. It’s Parisian for ‘Getting Your Ducks in a Row’.
The idea being, you must prepare, measure, cut, and gather ALL of the necessary ingredients, tools, and utensils for your recipes BEFORE you turn on any flames, grease any pans, or start ANY cooking.
If you prepare EVERYTHING before you start cooking, it will absolutely take you less time to cook.
Mise en place is not just a strategy for food prep.
It can also be a personal philosophy.
An ethical code.
A systematic approach for planning and taking on any and all of life’s challenges.
‘Be Prepared’ is the Boy Scout’s motto.
Getting prepared is the heart and soul of mise en place.
